The iShares book is a fee on someone else's allocation.
A public share print is not an AUM integer. The iShares fee is a rate on an allocation BlackRock does not own.
Friday 4 September Financials printed plus 0.05 percent. Energy led at plus 1.66 percent. The 10-year sealed at 4.78 percent, up two basis points. Financials plus 0.05 percent is the sleeve. The iShares fee is charged on assets BlackRock does not own, and the 4.78 percent coupon is the Treasury. A mixed average can hide a rate. A share print can hide it twice.
Principal Financial is both a fee shop and a book. BlackRock is the fee shop without the life book. Same Financials sleeve. Two clocks. BlackRock sells the iShares fee. Principal holds the life book already sold. The 4.78 percent coupon is the Treasury, a third clock beside both shares.
A 4.78 percent coupon is the duration page's object. Here it is an input to someone else's allocation. The fee franchise cares whether that allocation stays, and what rate it pays for staying. It does not need the house to be long the coupon. It needs the holder to remain the holder.
iShares is already on this site as a wrapper, not as a view. Japan sits in EWJ. Eurozone sits in EZU. Hong Kong sits in EWH. Software versus semis sits in IGV and SOXX. Those pages used the funds as regional and layer tapes. They did not make BlackRock long Tokyo, long the euro area, or long the semiconductor stack. The holder chose the sleeve. The product is the meter. A bull market is a directional book. The meter is a fee.
Flows into a wrapper can swell while the rate compresses. Flows can leave while the rate holds. A five-day window cannot tell those clocks apart. A red session in BlackRock is a share print. A green session sold as the house getting long is still the fee meter.
AUM is the notional the rate sits on. The notional is someone else's. The P&L is the rate. There is no BlackRock AUM line on this file. This file has no AUM integer and no market-cap figure to write on the share print.
A five-day in BlackRock still leaves the equity tape as a different object. iShares flows are not a house view. A wrapper can be bid in Japan and red in software in the same week. That split is the holder.
BlackRock sells iShares as a fee.
