Micron still has to stack high-bandwidth memory before a GPU part ships

SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron make that stack. Three names is not a commodity tape.

High-bandwidth memory is made by SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron. Micron printed 1,016.59 on the owned scan of 5 September, up 9.0 percent on the five-day window. The scan still carried an earnings clock, 13 days out.

It is the US-listed object of a three-name stack.

NVIDIA printed 230.36 the same scan, up 5.9 percent on the five-day window. Friday 4 September Technology was down 1.51 percent. The S&P 500 closed 7,718.6, down 0.38 percent, with 42 percent advancing. The Nasdaq 100 closed 29,539.4, up 0.23 percent from 29,471.1. A mixed average can hide a split. Two semiconductor prints bid inside a red sector can hide it twice.

The public argument is demand for accelerators. Tokens, training runs, inference. That argument is loud, and it is mostly priced. The private argument is a stack. High-bandwidth memory is made by SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron. Three suppliers still leave high-bandwidth memory short of a commodity tape. Micron is the US-listed object of that list. A GPU maker who has wafers and no stacks is a different animal from a GPU maker who has both.

SK Hynix, at Hot Chips in August 2026, said HBM4 in a twelve-layer stack was in mass production and a sixteen-layer stack was in qualification. Cantor and Wedbush have been running sold-out through 2026 and into 2027. Those are their claims. Analytics24 does not own an HBM bits-versus-margin series. Until Korean and American filings print mix and margin, treat every GPU session as weather and every memory print as a closer read of the same queue.

Wafer starts can rise and the stack can still miss. A design win can sit because the high-bandwidth memory that makes the win real is allocated to another rack. Ordinary DRAM can be in surplus for phones and PCs while HBM is allocated. NAND is a different weather system again. Phone DRAM, high-bandwidth memory, and NAND are three rents.

Friday Technology lagged and Energy led, and Micron at 1,016.59 sits in that split. The useful print on the next Micron call is mix: HBM as a share of bits or revenue, any stated HBM margin, and whether 2027 is still described as allocated. A conventional DRAM beat that omits the stack leaves the HBM queue unconfirmed. A guide that keeps 2027 tight names the allocation.

The GPU is the brand. The memory is the queue.
